Designed by renowned British furniture designer John Herbert for A. Younger Ltd, this exceptional teak sideboard forms part of the celebrated ‘Fonseca’ range produced during the 1960s. Inspired by Scandinavian design principles, the collection became one of Younger’s most successful and award-winning furniture ranges, admired for its clean lines, elegant proportions and outstanding craftsmanship.
Crafted in beautifully figured teak, this long sideboard features two spacious cupboards flanking a central bank of three dovetailed drawers, providing generous and practical storage. Every detail reflects the quality associated with Younger furniture, from the smooth piano hinges and finely constructed drawer boxes to the sculptural solid teak stretcher base and the distinctive overhanging top that gives the piece its striking architectural profile.
The understated design allows the natural warmth of the teak to take centre stage, making it equally at home in both period and contemporary interiors.
This example remains in good vintage condition with a rich colour and patina. It has been sympathetically cleaned and polished while retaining its original character. As with all genuine mid-century furniture, there are light signs of age and use consistent with its history.
