A stunning mid-century ‘Petersfield’ teak sideboard by renowned British furniture maker White & Newton of Portsmouth, dating from the 1960s. Celebrated for their forward-thinking designs and exceptional craftsmanship, White & Newton produced some of Britain’s finest modern furniture during the mid-century era.
This beautifully proportioned sideboard perfectly showcases the clean, architectural lines that define the Petersfield range. Crafted in richly grained teak, it features sleek concealed handles, a gently raised curved top edge, and an elegantly finished rear, allowing it to be positioned as a freestanding room divider as well as against a wall.
The thoughtful layout offers excellent storage, comprising:
- A drop-down cocktail cupboard to the left, complete with its original removable drinks tray.
- A spacious shelved cupboard to the right with ample storage for tableware, books or media.
- A central bank of drawers for cutlery, linens or everyday essentials.
Its understated design is timeless and remains as relevant today as when it was first produced.
The sideboard is presented in good original vintage condition with a lovely colour and patina. It has not been restored, retaining its authentic character. There are age-related marks consistent with careful use over the last 60 years, all of which are reflected in the photographs.
