A mid 20th century walnut cabinet with sliding doors by Florence Knoll circa 1950s. Florence Knoll designed a broad range of storage solutions. Her cabinet designs created a new contemporary aesthetic for streamlined and simples cases with plain elevations. The saddle leather pull was used from 1947. Wall mounted and floor standing cabinets were available in various sizes and an extensive range of finishes. The cabinets were strictly minimal in appearance and gestures towards decoration would be specified through lacquered finishes. In keeping with all Knoll productions, the quality of construction is extremely high.
The simple and timeless design was conceived to work singularly or in a modular series.
Four pull out wooden drawers and a sliding shelf which was originally (according to an old advert that we found) designed to hold a dictating machine (hence the ventilation hole at the back of the cabinet).
Florence Knoll designed furniture she perceived to be overlooked or was not available in simple formats. Her designs provided enduring solutions for contemporary interiors, with several still in production. Florence and Hans Knoll introduced landmark European and American design to an international marketplace, reissuing pre-war classics and commissioning contemporary design.

In good vintage unrestored condition. The black leather handles are original and do show some signs of wear which you have to expect after 50-60 years of use. The black powder coated tubular box metal square legs are not original as the original owner had misplaced so we had new legs fabricated to the original specifications. There a few holes in the base of the cabinet where the original legs had been placed. Please review the photos – happy to answer any questions.
