A seemingly rare mid century sideboard, designed by Günther Hoffstead for Uniflex, circa 1960’s. Uniflex furniture was made in relatively low numbers, but this is a model that we’ve never come across before.
Distinctive sculptured handles, double door cupboard with shaped interior shelf, a drop down drinks cupboard with a melamine covered inside door. Three drawers to the right hand side of the cupboards, the drawers are clean with no staining. The top drawer is lined with original black vinyl and has dividers for cutlery.
Uniflex made some stunning modern furniture in the 1960s. They pushed the boundaries of popular taste much further than G Plan. Their designs were minimalist in the extreme, often abolishing handles and creating an ultra modern look.
Although unrestored we have gently cleaned and re-polished the sideboard, the condition is good throughout. The back is also nicely finished, so this can be used as a free standing item. There are a few signs of its previous life but these are on the top of the sideboard but nothing significant to note. Please review the photos – happy to answer any questions.

Uniflex was made by the company L Lazarus and employed designers such as Peter Hayward and Gunther Hoffstead in the 1950s and 1960s. They were at the forefront of the mid century modern style with machined finish and mass marketing which helped bring it to a wider audience after the Festival of Britain.
