A beautifully crafted teak drinks cabinet designed by Torbjørn Afdal, circa 1950’s.
Quite a rare piece as these were produced in very low numbers.
The double twin doors have a lovely grain to the teak veneer. Inside the interior there is glass shelving and a mirror back, storage for 6 bottles and two pull out drawers. There is a convenient pull out table to mix your drinks on. The light fitting operates automatically when the cabinet door is opened.
A light fitting and bulb are in place, largely unseen, within the upper rear part of the cabinet. The light operates automatically when the cabinet door is opened and it illuminated without any issues when we tested it. A power cable remains in place but we’ve removed the plug and are selling the cabinet without power, only because we don’t have the required qualification to test and certify electrical goods. The option is there for you if you choose to reactivate the lighting yourself.
Afdal, a respected Norwegian designer, was known for making functional and elegant pieces like this one – not only can you store your glasses and bottles, but you can also fix up a drink using the convenient laminated pull out table. Afdal is also known for his lovely hall benches but also specialised in cocktail and dry bar cabinets.

Torbjørn Afdal is among Norways most gifted and productive furniture designers. After graduating from the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in 1946, he spent his career with the legendary Bruksbo Tegnekontor, who for three decades were one of Norway’s leading design offices for quality furniture. They created models for dozens of furniture manufacturers, and in the mid-1960s a large percentage of Norwegian furniture exports were designed by Bruksbo. Afdal got recognised internationally as a highly skilled designer, he was awarded with a gold medal for the lounge chair Broadway at the Deutsche Handwerksmesse in Munich 1959. Among those who purchased Afdal’s design were First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and the Japanese Emperor, and he later designed the office of Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland.
