A fabulous mid century British designer Robert Heritage rosewood Planar Range console table by Archie Shine circa 1960. The rectangular rosewood top with with three drawers below, raised on cast aluminium legs, a truly beautiful statement piece.
Archie Shine was one of the top British makers of up-market contemporary furniture in the 1960s and into the 1970s, and his pieces were retailed by Heals of London and other quality shops dotted around the UK. Archie Shine pieces were expensive back in the day, and pieces such as this were always luxury items so not found in large numbers as very few people would have had the space and money to add a piece like this to their dining room. Today it’s ideal as a console in a hallway, a small desk or also as a smart serving table in a dining room with plenty of space in the drawers for cutlery, plate mats etc.
The Planar range was designed by Robert Heritage for Archie Shine and produced from 1967 to the early 70’s. Although it did not sell well, Heritage regarded Planar as one of his most significant designs. Originally designed for the dining room these pieces offer great flexibility in todays home as either a desk or sideboard.
In very good vintage condition. Minimal signs of previous use but in overall good clean condition. The green felt in the cutlery drawer is very clean. This piece has been been in the same family since new and they have really looked after it. Please review the photos – happy to answer any questions.
