A Younger ‘Codan’ Range Teak Dressing Table / Desk by John Herbert SOLD
A stunning and quite rare desk/dressing table designed by John Herbert as part of the ‘Codan’ range for A Younger of Great Britain. Younger were renowned for their high quality workmanship and mainly retailed through Heals.
Beautiful simple design, constructed from solid teak (except the drawer interiors etc), this is very unusual as most mid century furniture (including danish) were constructed using wood veneers.
The piece has two spacious drawers either side of the kneehole.
A Younger were an up market maker of good quality contemporary furniture in the 1960s and their pieces would have been noticeably more expensive than G Plan and most other makers at the time.
This lovely Codan range was shown in the 1964 brochure, but was no longer there in 1968 brochure – when to reduce costs and prices they rationalised their ranges considerably.
The great thing about the pre-1968 pieces is that not only are they lovely quality, but also they have a natural oiled finish which is easy to clean and longer term is easier to look after.
In fantastic vintage condition. Minimal signs of wear through general use and age. Please see pictures of the top as signs of use are more noticeable there. Happy to answer any questions.
