A simple but gorgeous piece by Richard Hornby for Fyne Ladye furniture in the 1960s. A beautifully constructed Afromosia dressing table / vanity unit designed by Richard Hornby for mid century furniture makers Fyne Ladye. Hornby and Fine Ladye produced exclusively high-end and quality furniture that was sold in department stores such as Harrods, Heals and Maple & Co.
This beautiful dressing table/vanity unit is a stunning example of mid-century modern style. Crafted from high-quality teak, it features a rectangular shape and free-standing design, with six spacious drawers to provide ample storage space. The item measures W127.5cm in length, H71cm in height and D51cm in width, making it a perfect fit for any adult’s room.
The unit’s timeless design is accentuated by its rich brown colour and the original mid-20th century era it was manufactured in. With no tools required for assembly, this antique piece is easy to install and comes with a Fyne Layde brand name. Ideal for use in the bedroom or any other room of your choice, this original piece of furniture is sure to add a touch of elegance to your home.
The vanity unit features solid Afromosia drawer fronts and legs. Superb craftsmanship throughout, dovetail joints and carved recessed handles to each drawer. Some drawers are formica lined; the top right hand draw is felt lined for jewellery.
A large adjustable mirror which could be removed to create a large desk.
This vanity unit / dressing table has been gently cleaned but unrestored from when we have had it. The main signs of wear are to the top but these are consistent with age and use. The legs are structurally solid and all of the individual drawers run well. The mirror is in excellent condition with no significant scratching and just a small mark of foxing. Fyne Ladye Furniture of Banbury was one of the few quality British makers to use solid woods for their pieces in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Richard Hornby was a very accomplished designer whose simple elegant, clean designs were popular with well off middle-class buyers looking for modern Scandinavian style pieces at the time.
