The Volnay range was made from solid afrormosia which is sometimes also called African teak. This is one of the few mid century sideboards made from solid timber so it’s quite heavy.
The Volnay range designed in about 1956 by John Herbert was probably Younger’s most successful range as they were still selling it in 1966. A Younger Ltd was a renowned, fine quality furniture maker, heavily influenced by the Scandinavian ‘form and function’ design aesthetic of the day and produced high end furniture from the 1950’s – 1970’s. Their pieces were low in volume and expertly constructed, sold in places like Heals of London.
We bought this with a matching table and six chairs (see separate listing) from the family of the original owners who bought the set in the early 1960’s.
In very good unrestored vintage condition. No significant damage or marks to note, some minor scratches through general use on the top of the sideboard. The doors and drawers all run well. Please review the photos – happy to answer any questions.
