1970s G Plan Teak Spider coffee table. Classic mid-century design, the Spider table is probably the best (and most sought after) of the coffee tables made by G Plan. This round teak coffee table was designed in 1971 by V B Wilkins.
This is the true Astro coffee table sometimes referred to as the spider table. In recent years people have started to call the oval and round Fresco coffee tables as Astro which is sadly wrong!
Launched in November 1971 as the Astro, this model is today is often known as the Spider, whereas the astro is the name given to the more standard circular and oval models introduced a decade earlier and produced for much longer than this design. All were designed by Victor Bramwell Wilkins, but this model was over 50% more expensive than the oval glass table and was presumably thought as too expensive and taken out of production by 1974.
The table is in excellent original condition with very slight wear to the glass top. Please review the photos – happy to answer any questions.
