A stunning vintage rosewood sideboard designed by Tom Robertson and manufactured by A.H. McIntosh of Kirkcaldy in the 1960s. Possibly a unique ‘one-off’ as we’ve never before seen a rosewood version of these Dunfermline models in this compact format.
A good example of British workmanship. Offering a large double door cupboard and three good sized drawers – top one having internal cutlery dividers and lined with red felt.
Mcintosh of Kirkcaldy in Scotland made the ‘Dunfermline’ sideboard for over a decade and it was their second best selling model after the well known ‘Dunvegan’. The ‘Dunfermline’ was mainly made in teak as were the bulk of McIntosh sideboards, but is the only model that they also produced in rosewood.
The McIntosh label, which survives on many 1950s and 1960s pieces, shows the Scottish thistle and crown, a long-time symbol of Scotland. From 1948 until 1983, Tom Robertson worked as head designer for the firm; creating his most notable design, the teak Dunvegan sideboard (1960s) known for its sculpted handles.
In good vintage condition. We have given this piece a gentle clean and nothing else. There is a small scuff on the top of the sideboard but only noticeable when looking closely (see pic) and other minimal signs of wear and tear through general age and use but nothing significant to note.
