As the regulations on furniture manufacture under the war-time Utility Furniture Scheme were relaxed in the late 1940s, furniture makers were allowed to use a wider range of woods, such as the teak veneer on this sideboard. Christopher Heal designed this sideboard as part of a series from 1949–1950 ‘D5049’. The first batch was made by William Birch of High Wycombe, but the licence was later taken over by Kandya Ltd of London.

Rectangular sideboard veneered in teak over plywood, with three sliding doors and standing on four short straight legs. One internal drawer for cutlery and an internal shelf.

In excellent clean but unrestored condition. Signs of historical use and wear present as to be expected. The left back corner had a chip of veneer loose which has now been made secure. Please review the photos – happy to answer any questions.
